Based on interviews and questionnaires distributed among bereaved families, the project constructs a model that establishes networks among families, funeral directors, support groups, and social service agencies; empowers families and support ministries to meet needs of those who experience grief; and promotes healthy pastor/parish relationships as pastors lead bereaved families and communities through stages of grief. The project finds that grief is a process with differing stages of recovery; people experience and react to grief in different ways; and the pastor is a pivotal person in this process because in the African American community the pastor is considered to have biblical and theological knowledge of This project presents a process to help ordained clergy deal with their grief in order to strengthen their ministry.  The author's personal grief journey is shared with the purpose of discerning its effect on the person and profession of an ordained clergyperson.  The project's methodology involves colleagues in group therapy, responses to questionnaires, and resources and bibliographical data to find ways of support for caregivers and their grief journeys. They completed personal and professional history questionnaires and were interviewed about their responses to infant death.  This project interprets the results from the viewpoint of Personal Construct Theory to develop a template--that is, a framework of questions that a pastoral caregiver may use when giving pastoral care to nurses dealing with infant death.  Two case studies are included. Accompanying experiences, feelings, and reactions are described and related to the general literature and theory of grief.  Previous research, interviews, and life experiences, affirm that bereaved men have been expected to 'be strong' and to be concerned for others more than themselves. Their styles of griefwork indicate that they prefer to act rather than to talk or express feelings.
