The paper gives a biblical and historical overview and discusses contemporary objections to healing ministry.  It examines three settings where healing ministry is practiced. The author clarifies his theological understanding and traces through journal entries his initial experiential involvement in healing ministry.  He shares reflections/learnings which may be of value to others interested in beginning a practice of healing ministry. Among these learnings is the importance of empathic prayer and the engendering of hope.  Conveying God's care and desire for wholeness for creation is crucial.  Healing ministry should be an integral part of pastoral care ministry as well as of the congregation's life and ministry. After defining prayer as a receptive mode of consciousness akin to meditation, prayer is further categorized into three levels: detachment prayer, dialogue prayer and discovery prayer. Each is related to both Christian tradition and the experiences of 'runner-prayer-ers'.  Subsequent chapters deal with such subjects as holistic health, auto-hypnosis, the runner's 'high,' journal writing and personality changes.
