These chaplains are sustained and enabled by a strong sense of God's providence and by a clear vision of 'calling' understood through a rather literal application of the Ordinal of the Episcopal Church. The project discusses worship among nineteenth-century Episcopalians and the church's place in the antebellum South. The first lesson defines terms and uses a questionnaire to determine the understanding of biblical authority and interpretation held by each participant. Subsequent lessons investigate various approaches to these issues, including a sermon by each theologian.
