Much damage is done to the cause of Christ by internal conflict over authority and submission issues, especially in the North American Protestant sending faith mission boards. This thesis seeks to lay out a beginning working biblical theology of followership. Its conclusion is that Christian believers are called more to followership than leadership and a proper understanding of submission and obedience can aid greatly in the worldwide spread of the gospel. The thesis argues that the development and implementation of a biblical theology of submission and obedience will result in healthier, more sustaining, and effective missionaries and ministries. To illustrate such a statement, it will look at the early Society of Jesus under St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Moravian Brethren at Herrnhut under Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf. Each will be explored as to their history, missionary movement and effectiveness, early documents, and spiritual practices. At the end of the study, ten recommendations will be presented to modern Protestant faith mission boards in order to help address the submission and authority issues they face."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129905521491968,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:08.243Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"608a74a3-5d54-49db-ba78-0b6f315ecf99","accessControl_ssim":["28ab3c0f-a0cf-4d0c-900f-7cf2faabd9cf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["William Seymour: herald of a multiethnic pentecostalism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:57:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1a16095b-d568-4108-83b9-b3325c8b6ede"],"hasLease_ssim":["e8f33e3c-249c-4fcf-8c43-67a22c318f6f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gary-Jason Bryant"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Seymour, William Joseph, 1870-1922","Race relations","Clergy--Biography","History","Azusa Street Mission","Ethnicity","Cultural pluralism","Pentecostal churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Within these pages the author examines the life and ministry of the Azusa Street Revival's primary leader, William Seymour. The reearch conclusions demonstrate that first generation pastors who come from non-Christian backgrounds face significantly greater challenges than the average second generation pastor in ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132401126080512,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:02:48.237Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:52:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:50:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3e6ca468-6b70-4b81-a720-7dc2a38891f4","accessControl_ssim":["f591992f-5443-4cec-ba9b-ff1fc9b5d7b5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A prejudice investigated: why many Presbyterian churches in America and their congregants do not use written prayers and prayer liturgies in public and private worship and how it impoverishes the prayer life of the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:52:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:56:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b110eacb-942d-4868-b1fe-5920fe030f72"],"hasLease_ssim":["fabc631f-88a3-435f-8ecf-5679b12b62be"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry L Thompson"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry R Elenbaum"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"subject_tesim":["History","Presbyterian churches","Presbyterian Church","Prayer--Biblical teaching","Presbyterian churches--Worship","Congregations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis explores the reason Presbyterian Chruches In America and congregants in the Pittsburgh area have nout used written prayers and prayer liturgies in their public worship and private devotion. CNEC-PI as a pioneer in partnership mission explored adaptive strategies and contextualization for about 70 years. The researcher selected these two case studies because they demonstrated a determination to evangelize their communities with the gospel. This passion manifested into a desire to minister to more people through a new worship service. The research format was both qualitative and quantitative in nature as the researcher used quantitative surveys, open-ended questions, personal interviews, church campus visits, and archival data analysis to develop a deeper understanding of the planning process. This researcher believed two factors contributed to a successful launch of a new worship service: clear, consistent communication by leadership and unity in the leadership team. Research concluded this hypothesis was true. This researcher believes missionally-minded, evangelical churches often lead the way by breaking free of ineffective methods, reinventing the way ministry is done. The church must be willing to change or die."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130105590841344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:19.043Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":61,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
