I instituted a ministry of hospitality at the Hosanna Methodist Church designed to assimilate newcomers. Being recognized by him as persons of value and God-given identity enabled these nonpersons to see themselves as beloved children of God. Since the church often has failed in welcoming the stranger: the homeless, homosexuals, and other marginalized people, a Bible Study was developed that emphasized the lost spiritual discipline of hospitality. Christian responsibility to extend hospitality today grows out of a unique convergence of societal need, biblical call and understanding of the church's mission.  Therefore, St. Mark's seeks to become a hospitable community with effective ministries of invitation, welcome and inclusion.  Utilizing a multi-faceted and educational change strategy, this project offers opportunities for reflection on the call to hospitality, exercises to practice hospitable behaviors and occasions to evaluate parish policies.
