Can they then develop a means to share their faith with first-time visitors to Sunday morning worship? The author designed and led three different activities in which the arts were used as a vehicle for theological reflection. Through this process members were able to articulate their faith. Having successfully articulated their faith the author then led members through a process in which they designed and created a welcome bag. The bag contained objects that symbolized the faith articulated in the first part of this project. The bags are given to visitors at Sunday worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721881180307456,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:28:54.756Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:03:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2aa8d029-dd47-4391-96f5-45c8a1b07027","accessControl_ssim":["1959c11e-f57b-43c4-9ed7-e2374f8f05ad"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cultivating Christian identity in consumer culture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:03:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:22:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8a1c87ad-5415-43a2-9b0d-a2d2e54ff4c2"],"hasLease_ssim":["4d7a7209-a42d-463a-91e4-d3363324eb92"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary Parrett"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Monte M Johnston"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Consumption (Economics)","Identity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work deals with the problem of the compromised identity of American Christians today due to consumerism. Consumerism is analyzed through its history and through its present key features, including the loss of certainty, individualism, choice, consumption, and commodification. By looking at individualism, branding and shopping, identity in a consumeristic world is examined. The answer lies in the adoption of practices, as defined by Alistair McIntyre. Hospitality, which is given as a model of practice, is examined starting from its biblical roots up to current proposals. Practical advice is then offered as to how a church might implement this practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130335059116032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:57.882Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Janet L Burdewik","hits":1,"label":"Janet L Burdewik"},{"value":"Monte M Johnston","hits":1,"label":"Monte M Johnston"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Identity","hits":2,"label":"Identity"},{"value":"Christians","hits":1,"label":"Christians"},{"value":"Consumption (Economics)","hits":1,"label":"Consumption (Economics)"},{"value":"Evangelistic work","hits":1,"label":"Evangelistic work"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":2,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Hartford Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Hartford Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":2,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2007","hits":2,"label":"2007"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Hartford Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Hartford Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Hartford Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Hartford Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":2,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":2,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
