The paper shows that the faith of the counselee can bring forgotten material to awareness and to resolution when prayer is used in the process of active imagination. The notion of active imagination is found in the works of C G Jung. Qualities of active imagination in some of the commentaries on Jung are listed. After examining the effects of original sin, the author examines the process of redemption that seeks to heal these wounds of human nature. He then takes an in-depth look at grace and faith in this process of healing and examines the understanding of prayer as an instrument of this entire process. Christ-centered prayer has a special power. Actual cases of counseling, prayer and active imagination help to understand the results of such a procedure to the counselee. Chinese preachers need to uphold the value of expository preaching, and at the same time, endorse the use of imagination and be more image-sensitive. The proposed expository-imaginative approach, with an emphasis on first 'exegeting the Word' and then 'imagining the sermon,' serves to bridge the apparent gap between a didactic, logical, linear preaching and a postmodern, post-literate, multimedia culture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126151720075264,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:23:28.339Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b85abfb3-537e-4322-baae-a90a2513a7ac","accessControl_ssim":["377022e9-4bba-431f-85da-106b018befb2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Five modes of imagining for effective preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c775d00d-c717-4dd6-a034-6c5b4637f94f"],"hasLease_ssim":["c8bd23fd-9be3-4d52-a0ff-fb459f61dbe2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Vincie"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janet C Schlichting"],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Imagination","Preaching--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Introduction sets forth the problem, the lack of inspired and inspiring preaching in the churches today, and suggests the failure of imagination as a cause. Chapter One offers a general discussion of the development of thought on imagination. Chapter Two presents a study of preaching and imagination. Chapter Three describes five modes of imagining used in preaching: empathic imagining, prophetic imagining, lyrical-pictorial imagining, playful imagining, and resistant imagining. Chapter Four reviews the interviews of six preachers who preached homilies in the five modes of imagining. Chapter Five describes and evaluates a workshop offered for preachers on the modes of imagining. The Conclusion states the author's hopes that understanding preaching as an imaginative act, and using imaginative approaches such as the modes of imagining described in the thesis, might offer both preachers and listeners a truly living Word of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130303805259776,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:28.076Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
