When Protestant missionaries brought Christianity to Korea, they forced Korean Christians to throw away all the ways of Korean shamanism, but shamanistic tradition is variously found in the spirituality and daily life of Korean Christians. A change in understanding of lay ministry is necessary to overcome the inactivity or passivity of the laypersons.  This requires a change from a consciousness based on the Confucian tradition to the Christian idea based on the Bible and Christian tradition. This project suggests a better understanding of ministry and church office, educational programs, and important implications that are necessary for the Korean Church to activate lay ministry. On the hypotheses that most Roman Catholics do not understand the gospel message of the Bible, that they should be evangelized, and that certain methods are more effective than others in accomplishing this goal, the project analyzes relevant literature and empirical research, proving the hypotheses correct. Research centers on the history of antisemitism in the church and on works by Jewish and Christian post-Holocaust theologians.
