The denominations studied are: Roman Catholics, Mennonites, Hutterites, Shakers and Quakers. A diagnosis of the problem was given from psychological, emotional, theological, and biblical perspectives. A theology and methodology was presented showing why that issue was a focus for an act of ministry. A sermon series was presented dealing with the themes of abandonment, lostness, and hope. Evaluation was done by a peer group using written-response questionnaires and by the chapel community using scale-type questionnaires. As a result a model was developed that is effective and relevant for a variety of pastoral issues."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129892075601920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:55.420Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:52:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9435a868-9528-47b9-b143-9c765b399f8d","accessControl_ssim":["f8ebfa43-13df-4434-b6e0-0cf14c039d7b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Life in the balance--faith, family, and work: an approach to Christian education with families"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:52:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:28:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6fcdfca9-3d67-4ef6-8733-3e71e60b8031"],"hasLease_ssim":["f30a24a9-11c9-4569-8c3d-e720f74c413f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Rodney J Hunter"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John M Downs"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Faith","Christian education of adults","Families","Labor"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The hypothesis proposed that if individuals examine patterns of faith, family, and work in light of themes of vocation and covenant, new awareness will empower change toward rebalancing loyalties. Seven bi-weekly sessions focused on interactions between two realms of the faith, family, and work triad (e.g., family and work, faith and family, etc). Assignments elicited personal reflection and couple communication. A pre-test, interview, post-test, and evaluation took place. Participants reported some new awareness of how faith, family, and work may receive new shape, and some ability to balance them more effectively, but no significant new patterns of faith, family, and
