Assisting in building happy marriages and developing effective communication skills were the goals of this project.  The project methodology included interviews, lectures, group discussions, and questionnaires on financial management, sex, individual differences, and marital strengths and weaknesses. This occurred during the seven-week project with nine couples.  Examination of post evaulation data indicates goals were reached. By exploring the themes found within this ethic, the contentious differences of interpretation surrounding God's will for human sexuality can be examined and assessed.  A thirteen session curriculum identifies and explores the elements and application of this Relational Ethic to interpersonal relationships and establishes relational guidelines between the course participants. The seminar was entitled 'Closeness Through Communication' and focused on communication as being essential in generating marital closeness.  The fifteen participating couples were African-Americans and members and friends of a local church.  The participants completed the pretest questionnaire prior to the communication instruction.  The followup was held forty-one days after the workshop and the posttest questionnaire was completed by the same participating couples.  The seminar focused on the communication skills, Sensitivity, Openness, Negotiation and Appreciation, which were the modules for the one-day workshop, with accompanying activities. Findings indicated that the couples in this group did not show a significant change in their marital relationships during the forty-one day followup, according to the t-Test and f-Test statistical procedures.  Positive changes occurred between the couples in sensitivity, openness and negotiation but not in appreciation skills.
