This project focused on gender relations among clergy full members of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church. Using theology and the cognitive mode from psychology, the author looked at intermediate and core beliefs and automatic thoughts of clergy toward each other. The elements were analyzed through a focus group, a general survey, and directed reading. Relationships are vital to any congregation and reflect the health of the congregation.  There are many ways that one might seek to understand relationships.  This project used the concept of relational needs that I call the 'TIM's' approach.  This concept was first introduced by Heinz Kohut.  The project consisted of class sessions as well as the selected leaders seeking to strengthen personal relationships within the fellowship known as First Baptist Church, Bloomfield. The understanding of relational needs provides lenses through which people can see others at a deeper level. Many current discipleship methods produce powerless Christians giving cognitive assent to biblical principles while living in discord with their stated beliefs.  The author attempted to establish personal relationships as the primary method of assimilating and discipling new converts at First Baptist Church. The project focused on helping church staff members become aware of the effect of personality styles and preferences on relationships. Through a seven-week training course, the author sought to cultivate, within those participating, the ability to interact with others in ways that would enliven and enhance their spiritual and emotional well-being.  As a result of his research, the author reached two conclusions: that the congregation and its governing board viewed the establishment of a lay caregiving ministry in the church as important; and, that through systematic training, lay people could be adequately equipped to provide ministries of pastoral care within the
