This study concerns itself with relationships and how intimacy, conflict, and communication affect codependent relationships. The study examines the Bible, analytical psychology, and traces relationships from biblical times to the present. The project presents a psycho-educational view, which combines and integrates psychology and religion. Combining the cognitive, affective, and spiritual, this project presents a curriculum that specifically speaks to individuals with poor skills in maintaining relationships due to codependent behavior patterns. The approach used is outlined and presented in a ten week intensive course. Utilizing the tenets of family therapy, education, and the Bible, the course assists participants in addressing and working through prior experiences that hinder the forming and maintaining of healthy relationships. It uses the support group format and structure while incorporating literature, Bible study, and movies to speak to, empower, and enable program participants to take responsibility for their lives."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125180810002432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:08:02.407Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:55:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:42:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9f63d2f8-252e-46dc-9b08-8473f2b75b3a","accessControl_ssim":["c45f3ef9-d27b-435c-a315-790fc1dfc683"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Love and friendship in relational community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:55:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:47:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["07016dc7-2c0a-47b2-b714-50c1188f547e"],"hasLease_ssim":["9ea2e548-ddf2-4b9f-b490-f45f78e699d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard Parrott"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald S Hall"],"publisher_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Community--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Jesus viewed the church as a relational community in which love and friendship are present as was envisioned in John 13:34-35. The comprehension and expression of such a view is vital to the health, life and testimony of the church. When the church captures a vision for biblical community it will leave a living signature upon the world and experience purpose, fulfillment and joy. This project created a biblical model that was entitled 'Love and Friendship in Relational Community.' The model measured the condition of relationships in the light of biblical principles on community and designed means in which to bring about relational change. The model was analyzed and evaluated externally by a team of experts and internally by a church staff. The model was found to be successful in facilitating dialogue among church leaders to create strategies to enrich Christian relationships and in accomplishing the established goals of encouraging meaningful relational development in the community of faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["beb93775-0b27-4cc6-9fb0-f2ad62e68517"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131098570293248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:06.023Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:33:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"78b733c7-8c31-4d3c-bf2a-673f630e07f1","accessControl_ssim":["7977411b-d428-4d21-9a17-bcdae9274f91"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Beating the odds: successfully following a long-term pastor"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:51:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:40:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["467c91bf-4a99-4d4e-bf26-b51820563ecd"],"hasLease_ssim":["911c3679-77fb-47db-b99c-cc2e2dd0e871"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Seamands"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard A Danielson"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Clergy","Laity","Clergy--Tenure","United Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to identify the factors considered dominanct in successful and unsuccessful pastoral transitions by pastors who have followed a long-term predecessor. This study sought to gather information on successful and unsuccessful transitions by focusing on three participants in each transition: the predecessor, the successor, and the congregation. Twenty pastors from the Western New York Conference of the United Methodist Church were chosen to be interviewed based on meeting the following criteria: 1) full-time pastors appointed at some point in their vocation to succeed a pastor who had served the congregation for nine years or more; 2) for those currently serving in that position, a minimum tenure of two years was required; and 3) for those not currently serving in that position, the term of service needed to have ended within the past five years. Data analysis was based on the transcripts of those interviews. In regard to the three participants in pastoral transitions the major findings included: 1) the choices the predecessor made in relating to the congregation and supporting the new pastor were more important than whether he or she remained in the church and community; 2) a healthy process of grieving and letting go of the predecessor was critical if the congregation was to welcome and follow the new pastor; 3) the incoming pastor's ability to understand the congregation and exert appropriate leadership was essential in each transition. The increasing length of pastorates in the United Methodist Church requires attention to the dynamics of succession following long-term pastorates. This study concludes that more transitions can be successful with the provision of appropriate training that focuses on practical matters and issues of character."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134344002142208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:41.108Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:47:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e7c2bd77-362b-4d06-88a9-048bf008a656","accessControl_ssim":["2c04988e-045f-4682-94e1-17178502ff39"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching in a small parish: shaping the homiletic of 'conversational story'"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:47:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:45:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b1ae9bdc-28e7-4724-a753-965bcbd730a3"],"hasLease_ssim":["34d87466-dc1d-4e3c-889e-4466de6c067a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Morris J Niedenthal"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael James Wollman"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Expository preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The members of small, rural parishes find themselves connected to one another through the common stories of the faith of the Church, as well as through the stories of their congregations' continuously coming into being. Casual conversation among the members shares new episodes of that story, while their everyday lives provide the material for each episode. In small congregations and parishes of less than one hundred weekly worshippers, the intimately conversational nature of the sharing of the congregational story among the faithful membership has shaped the preaching into a form that is also conversational and faithful to the form of story. It is conversational, in that it is one offering in an ongoing exchange on matters of faith; and it is faithful, in that it pays closest attention to the form and content of the biblical story of which the Church in general and this parish in particular are continuing parts. The preacher is sometimes invited to converse with the congregation. At other times, the preacher only overhears their conversations, and shapes sermons that respond."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134032743890944,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:44.269Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:46:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7f566773-8c69-435a-b796-81254a36ff8b","accessControl_ssim":["175a4be7-4deb-4464-aeb2-35d0c404f7d3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching toward a healthy congregation: a study in the relationship between preaching and the congregation as an emotional system"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:46:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:53:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["01fd4dc1-3013-45e0-a251-8868b12f33a4"],"hasLease_ssim":["6fb1da3c-02d7-4e53-89d1-64d7333acdb5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Jan Erickson-Pearson"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lukas L Bouman"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Expository preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis proposes a process of discovery of the place of the preacher in the congregation as a system, which leads to insights into the communication process.
