Participants of a regular Bible study joined in a curriculum of a ten-week study of the Beatitudes and the entire congregation received a sermon on 'Understanding the ethics of Jesus.' Positive results in terms of the willingness of some members to practice the ethics of the Beatitudes were evident before the entire Bible study had been completed. Guided imagery prayer can heal the shame women feel. The process used was a spiritual retreat for women. They were led in guided imagery meditations of four healing stories of Jesus: the healing of the bent-over woman (Luke 13:10-17); the healing of Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:21-24a,35-43); the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years (Mark 5:24-34); and the woman at the well (John 4:4-30). After each exercise they participated in a discussion about their experience. The retreat was a positive experience for each woman. Some of them felt healing that day. Few of them continued to use the meditations by themselves after the retreat. It is precisely because of God's work through Jesus Christ that He can and is restoring His created order and believing humanity back to His original intended purposes. Parabolic interpretation has changed over the centuries with parables no longer viewed as allegory, but now understood as metaphors with extended meaning. In review of the purpose, Jewish source, nature, and language of parables this project examined how contemporary preachers can use Jesus' parables to communicate the message of God's Kingdom. Using his highly acclaimed novel Silence, and his smaller work  A Life of Jesus, I convened a small reading group that engaged these literary texts specifically to challenge their images of Jesus. By reading these literary works, which emphazise the humanity of Jesus from a non-academic Japanese understanding, the participants in this project reflected on how they came to understand Jesus and how Endo challenged their
