Forty-six members of North Boston Korean United Methodist Church in Andover, Massachusetts, participated in this project from March 1993 to December 1994. From this analysis, six principles have been identified contributing to numerical growth: a church-centered life, conservative theology, dedicated pastors, prayer meetings, small group meetings, and the homogeneous unit.  The writer seeks to discover the correlation between the implementation of these principles and church growth.  By comparing the rate of growth between those churches that practice these principles with those that do not, a valid judgment was made whether a correlation exists between the adherence of these principles and church growth.  The writer's hypothesis was not supported. The program has been developed carefully on the basis of strong theological and theoretical rationale.  The method of study combines 13 class teachings and a marriage enrichment retreat followed by a three-month support group.  The program was implemented at the Korean First Baptist Church (SanJose, California).  Results show a significant improvement in the rolemodels, relational behavior, communication, and conflict management. During these years, first-generation Koreans worked toward better socio-economic positions and lifestyles.  However, while these parents were working hard, their children grew up without much love or interest from the parents.  Two different lifestyles of the first and second generations were starting to make a wall between them.  This wall manifested itself at home and at church as separation of these two groups.  The difference in language, culture and values further separated these two groups.  The church is given the task of reconciling and restoring first and second generations' relationship and treating their wounds. The writer has begun a retreat program that can allow second-generation children to discover a new identity, and Korean language school that can improve their relationship by better understanding each other. It was based on an approach to confirmation as a process of identity formation. The project concluded with a 'mission worship' led by the youth in which samulnori and other aspects of Korean culture were introduced into the confirmation service. Among them is the church which has played a central role in the settlement of Korean immigrants in the United States. Currently, there are over 2,000 Korean-American churches in the United States. Unfortunately, this rapid growth in the number of Korean-American churches does not go hand in hand with the expected level of maturity in church life. Especially, active involvement of church members is not consistent from church to church.  This study takes an approach that development of active involvement of church members is one of the most important tasks of the ministry of pastors. However, most Korean Christians seem more interested in the actual practice of prayer than in the theological intricacies it may involve.  Chapter 1 describes the prayer habits of Korean Christians and gives a history of the prayer movements of the Korean Protestant Church from the awakening of 1907 to the present.  A field study conducted to gain knowledge of the present prayer life of Korean immigrant churches in Canada is analyzed in chapter 2.  Theological formulations for the practice of prayer in Christian life, Jesus' teaching and practice of prayer comprise chapter 3.  Chapter 4 suggests ways to help people pray more effectively by reviewing the most important characteristics of Christian prayer.
