After developing a Church Polity Statement and Ministry Handbook for the church, a training seminar was developed to help members understand their unique shape for ministry and either find an appropriate place of ministry within the church or deepen their commitment to ownership in their current place of service. Utilizing the Evaluative Case Study approach, the author draws upon the disciplines of theology, ecclesiology, history, psychology and sociology. Such preaching involves a measure of self-disclosure, providing identification between preacher and hearer. The author did qualitative research with men and women in recovery who were participating in Serenity Retreats, and who affirmed the need for a preacher's self-disclosure and awareness of recovery motifs. He also did similar research within a parish setting, with like results.
