The analysis of institutional codependency on the relationship between a pastor and his church is the major focus of this project. This thesis challenges that assumption by examining the valuable role that church leaders can, and should, play in the development process of effective expository sermons. After demonstrating from scripture the vested interest church leaders should have in the sermon, the thesis will look at indirect and direct ways church leaders can assist in the sermon development process. The ministerial staff and congregation participated in this project by completing a 360 degree survey of the participants. The project director presented the results to the ministerial staff in coaching sessions. The tentative project methodology included lectures, PowerPoint presentations, videotapes, music, case-studies, role-plays, and hands-on activities. The research included surveys and interviews of people in these churches. The findings revealed the behaviors that build trust in these churches are: character, consistency, caring, communication and competency. The results also indicated that behaviors that decrease trust in these churches are: breaking promises, pride, lack of respect, lack of communication and incompetency.
