The project consisted of three training sessions, and a survey given to the fifty-one congregations of the Charlotte District in the WNCC. The pastor of a UMC congregation may have a clear understanding of his or her role, but rarely to the lay members have a similar understanding. Four small groups produced a custom-made lectionary, collected related reference materials, and provided the pastor with weekly exegetical and presentation ideas, supporting materials, and feedback on proposed sermons. The pastor's increase in satisfaction and reduction in frustration with the overall sermon preparation process indicated positive change. The research methodology was a qualitative study of two ministers in the Presbyterian Church in Canada, one a recent graduate and the other a recent immigrant. The ministerial staff and congregation participated in this project by completing a 360 degree survey of the participants. The project director presented the results to the ministerial staff in coaching sessions. The context was the Saint Paul Baptist Church, Capitol Heights, Maryland. Design was qualitative and quantitative involving four test churches of varying size and denomination. The field test churches were engaged in teaching, preaching and prayer activities over the course of twelve weeks. Pre- and post assessment tools were administrated. Data analysis revealed that the increase activities had a direct correlation to increase attendance and participation in corporate prayer. The tentative project methodology included lectures, PowerPoint presentations, videotapes, music, case-studies, role-plays, and hands-on activities.
