To accomplish this an equipping process was designed that enables a ministry leader to increase their leadership competency and commitment. The heart of the project is the twelve session equipping class in which participants are exposed to a variety of topics and issues vital to ministry leadership and development. The project's design strategy targets three specific areas of learning and development: the cognitive, the affective, and the spiritual. The research has determined the boomer generation is more likely to be involved in ministry in the local church or community when the ministry has meaning and purpose, along with the flexibility of time. The training on this spiritual triad was accomplished with thirty members/leaders in six sessions through the use of Bible instruction and other professional materials.  Interviews, post-test, and focus groups were used to measure the effect of the training. A high rate of pastoral turnover and geographic isolation necessitate the training of lay preachers to meet this need.  Lay preachers can be effective if they understand the communication patterns of the traditional/oral listeners who occupy these pews.  This project equipped a group of laymen from a large urban church to preach in the small rural churches of Oklahoma.  The laymen were trained to understand and appreciate biblical narrative.  they learned basic storytelling skills.  They worked to construct and deliver sermons that respected the traditional/oral communication keys of stories, relationships, and proverbial sayings. It was also an attempt to revitalize a local Solomon Islands church by helping it to assess its needs and then design and implement its own objectives and change process.
