Para-ministers are non-professional church workers, who serve alongside the ordained pastor who directs their efforts toward specific ministries. These persons are not bivocational pastors, associate pastors, or ministers of religious education, music, etc.  They are lay persons who are given monetary remuneration for part-time services and full-time responsibilities.  The project includes a biblical foundation and theological justification for the model along with guidelines for its implementation. For these gifts to be effectively utilized in service, the church itself must be structured for employing the spiritual gifts of members.  I drafted a theology of spiritual gifts and a philosophy of ministry regarding spiritual gifts.  I guided the church leadership in drafting an official church position regarding the operation of spiritual gifts within the congregation.  In addition, job descriptions were drafted.  A series of sermons was designed to assist the church in understanding spiritual gifts and discovering gifts each possessed. It includes: criterion for selecting lay counselors, defining pastoral and lay responsibilities, identifying basic counseling procedures, defining roles of the husband and wife, developing the art of communication, resolving conflicts, managing finances, follow up procedures, and evaluations. Insights and principles were compiled into a training manual.  Five couples were trained. The project was researched with a local church board of administration consisting of nine men.  There  were two facets of the project.  An educational emphasis employed twelve school of ministry sessions.  The experiential impact was highlighted by ten ministry reports from the board members.  Some of the results included a greater awareness that all Christians are ministers; an increased understanding of and involvement in ministry.
