The primary purpose of the project is to lead participants of the study group to become more faithful pastoral care-givers in the church and in the community. A secondary purpose is to enhance the project leader's ability to communicate the ministry of care-giving in a way that helps Christians see the benefits of faithful care-giving in their lives, families, churches, and communities. The objective of the project will be accomplished through a nine-week study group. The study group will concentrate on three major areas of study. The multi-faceted responsibility of pastoring a local church makes the practice very difficult. A study of the development of pastoral care in scripture and history led the author to define pastoral care as leading people into holy living through their faith in Christ within the context of the local congregation provided a foundation for developing praxis for the responsibility. The mutual ministry of the people provides care that has been the objective of pastoral visitation. The primary purpose of the project was to utilize trained persons more effectively for the proclamation of the gospel.  Questionnaires were distributed to the congregation to determine the subjects for training seminars.  Entrance and exit examinations were given to gauge what participants had learned and how they had changed. The subjects of the seminars were the necessity of lay leadership, non-participatory and participatory ways of education, equality and impartiality, and types of leadership. Second Baptist Church is a traditional church whose future depends upon revitalization.  The purpose of the project is to implement a comprehensive model which involves the entire congregation in team ministry.  The method used includes interviewing members to enlist them, organizing ten Ministry Teams and forming a Ministry Council to coordinate the system. Assimilation is dependent, however, upon the clergy staff having the time required to train, equip, and mentor the laity.  Additional time can be gained by implementing a lay congregational care system.  This system will ensure that all persons in the congregation will be prayed for daily; contacted weekly; will have a person available for nurture and care in times of crisis; and will be in contact with a person who will be an example of God's grace and the church's love.  By utilizing this army of volunteers who are gifted in the area of care and nurture, the clergy staff can equip the saints for ministry. Equipping will be achieved through time spent in a mentoring relationship. During this time every effort will be made to help each person identify their spiritual gifts. Once these gifts are identified, one's passion will come to life and one's calling will become clear.  A pretest, posttest survey was used to help determine if the care received helped to bring about the other objectives.  These scores did indeed prove to be acceptable. This study determined the effect of designing an intentional process using a team approach of pastor and thirty leaders.  The study made use fo the sport of whitewhater rafting as an image for discipleship development. In this metaphor the church is an outfitter, providing the necessary resources and training for equipping disciples. The methodologies included education of membership and shepherds, selection of populations for cells, tally sheets of various contacts, questionnaires to both cell families and shepherds and reflection of the researcher.  The findings proved this ministry is needed in the context and transferable to the general church. Chapter four describes what happened during a comprehensive sequence of ministry actions.  Chapter five gives the results of the project's ministry actions. The project report provides background on the traditional relationship of the pastor with his congregation in the Korean Church; introduces three key goals; and discuses this study's methodologies. The author presents the biblical, theoretical, and historical foundations for cell group ministry considering 'the church' as the koinonia associated with Paul. It also introduces aspects of the cell ministry movement in other locations, such as China, India, Africa, Australia, and Korea. The project discusses the disillusionment within the Korean church community due to changes in traditional religious, political and societal expectations.
