A sequence of learning events were developed for their spiritual growth and leadership skills.  A Pro-Active Research Method and the Reflection-Action Model helped the pastor and leaders analyze the congregation's needs which led to action plans for proclamation and social services.  The Research Model afforded the pastor and leaders to make decisions based on their assessment of community needs. Eight lessons were taught to a group of fifteen members who are financially committed to the church, but are not presently involved in a ministry to members or the community. These lessons were developed on the foundations of scripture, theology, and the principles of formative education. It is the intent of this project to affect the attitudes, dispositions, values, and behavior of the participants with the end result being an increased desire to develop, and implement ministries for the Longview Heights S.D.A. Church. The Longview Heights S.D.A. Church is a traditional, one hundred year old, inner-city church. Seven structured sessions were developed and implemented dealing with the topics: prayer, the Word of God, fasting, how to grow in faith, praise and worship, love one another, and the dynamics of witnessing. Lay leaders were trained to teach the topics. parallel with the topics we designed a devotional journal '50-Day Journey to the Mountaintop with Jesus.' The results were renewal of the congregation, community outreach events and the development of a Home Nursing program.
