Various approaches were tried by the author. Use of the Living Life Bible Study class proved most effective. Participants became active models for the whole congregation. The most noticeable improvement was in trainees acting as lay pastors, taking on responsibilities formerly completed by the author. Data was gathered and the model was developed through training, pre-testing and post-testing, interviews, and theological reflection and evaluation with peers and context associates. The findings of this project reflected a change in the treatment group's views on leadership and a realization that 'ministry' and 'vision in ministry' should be shared among all believers. The main reason is that there are very few pastors and no lay Christians trained to provide such care. The goal of this project was to train laity through practical, experiential, and clinical methods to engage in effective hospital visitation. This goal was achieved by training laity to provide pastoral care for hospital patients. The author planned for participants to attend eight sessions totaling sixteen hours of training. In these meetings they received instruction and participated in group activities. The first six sessions focussed on a basic understanding of pastoral care, the nature of hospitalization, the personal identity as a pastoral caregiver, the guidelines for the hospital visit, a model of pastoral conversation, and writing and presenting a verbatim report. The participants made five hospital visits after the sixth session. The first phase will include five Sunday morning messages addressing the nature of organizational change in the life of churches, ministry through spiritual gifts, and the development of team ministries.  The messages will discuss ministry structures found in Scripture and the basic operational principles by which they function.  The second phase will focus on five Sunday evening seminars.  The seminars will examine Sunday morning sermons in light of Garden Oaks Baptist Church's committee structure with a view toward developing a structure based on a team-ministry approach. Through interaction and dialogue, seminar participants will evaluate Garden Oaks Baptist Church's committee structure and pursue development of a team-ministry structure based on one's spiritual gifts.  The third phase will be designed to enlist a study team of twelve people from participants of the first and second phases. This model has been developed so it can be implemented in settings where poverty is not apparent. This six-week series can be offered at a cluster or district level. The series gives individuals an opportunity to encounter the issues of poverty and to recognize every church's role in addressing these needs. Southside was an eleven year old, small rural church in western Tennessee, that had experienced fifty-eight deaths. Unprocessed grief bent the congregation in the direction of becoming a sanctuary church and a survivor church.  Death hit this church hard and grief overload was experienced. This report traces its development from concept to implementation. It provides basic principles, procedures and structure that can be used to give pastoral care in meta-church (small group) style to an entire congregation, involve lay persons in meaningful ministry, and prevent clergy burnout.
