It is a very important question to Korean churches, because Korean churches have usually been led by a pastoral group. Another impact on the churches is servant leadership. Servant leadership is very close to the image of the pastor in Korean culture. The ministry paradigm is transferring from a vertical and hierarchical structure of ministry to a horizontal structure including the laity. The chapers defining a mid-sized church, pastor as leader, and being a mid-sized church are a guide to current and future mid-sized pastors and congregations. The second ministry tool is a resource list that is available through the Virginia Annual Conference Mid-Sized Task Force. Pretest assessments, using surveys, questionnaires, and interviews, of leaders from a diverse background of denominations, showed deficits in areas due to a lack of effective self-care. The primary intervention for this study was a workshop entitled, 'Walking in My Destiny with Effective Self-Care.' The workshop taught how to use the biblical notions of Sabbath and Sabbatical to improve self-care. The researcher uses a model of ministry to lead Lutheran leaders in rostered ministries through a twenty-five hour Sabbath retreat using ample free time, an intentionally home-like setting, a wide variety of practices, and methods of feedback to improve this model for future users. This project helps leaders to serve the Lord in faith and good courage while helping them avoid the spiritual dangers of serving self and the powers of darkness in meetings. The focus of this effort is on the moments following alarm or the awareness of stress that is being generated by one's heart. The researcher trained the five men and nine women of the Parish Planning Council on three theological foci: a theology of thinking in crisis, a theology of worship in service, and a theology of leadership in suffering. Each of these monthly sessions was reinforced by a weekly Bible study and a monthly opportunity for a one-on-one meeting where applications of the Alarm Model were made to current issues. The researcher found that a successful leadership succession depends upon a well-planned transition. The research consisted of a case study of four small independent churches. The researcher compared the traditional and apostolic approaches to leadership succession. Through grounded theory and coding of the data, the researcher identified factors that contribute to both the positives and obstacles of a good leadership succession.
