This report explores the differences in modern and postmodern cultures and, using theological and biblical foundations, outlines specific characteristics of leaders necessary to lead in this postmodern time, as well as offers similarities pastors and other church leaders will exhibit in their postmodern leadership in their congregations. Research for this report included conversations with three pastors and five elders over three two-hour sessions. The literature review examined the differences in the positions of church administrator and executive pastor and the changes in leadership style of those who moved from one position to another position higher on the organizational chart. Two case studies of individuals who were church administrators and became executive pastors were used as the research method. The body of the dissertation is divided into three parts. A literature review examines literature associate with leadership, change management, church health and growth, organizational culture, and biblical studies so that key practices can be determined. The research procedure section defines the case study methods, criteria, questions, and reliability of the research. The case studies themselves demonstrate the key leadership practices used by three pastors to bring about culture transformation within each respective church. There are three key practices for leading cultural transformation within churches developed in this dissertation. First, there is an association between the leadership practices of identifying the current cultural philosophies and overall cultural transformation in the church. Second, there is an association between the leadership practices of disrupting the existing cultural philosophies and overall cultural transformation in the church. Third, there is an association between the leadership practice of freezing new cultural philosophies and overall cultural transformation in the church. The method used to determine the impact of servant leadership was a questionnaire designed to assess attitudinal changes after people had participated in servant related activities.  The results of the survey showed substantial positive impact on the participants' cognitive, affective, relational, and spiritual attitudes. Then, the director enlisted a group of leaders to equip in an assimilation ministry in Central baptist Church. last, the project director led the sessions as team members were equipped in an assimilation ministry and recognized the need for an intentional assimilation process in Central Baptist Church. Of these two, the office of elder is the one principally charged with the leadership of local churches.  The identification and selection of said elders is a key challenge that this project seeks to address and facilitate.  The project execution saw the creation and implementation of a workshop in two congregations focused upon the biblical standard of an elder's qualifications, roles and tasks. In keeping with the equipping program model, the project began with the project director's research in the field of team leadership. The research focused upon ways in which personality type and spiritual giftedness may be understood and applied in the context of church staff leadership. Upon completion of this research, the project director developed curriculum based upon findings from the research. The project director had three goals. First, the project director researched applicable material on personal evangelism. Second, the project director developed curriculum to teach a series of lessons on personal evangelism. Six lessons were developed and administered over a three-week period. The lessons equipped deacons to engage in personal evangelism. Third the project director's presentation and content of lessons were evaluated at the conclusion of the project. Many good and varied ministries were taking place, but none were connected with each other, and most were not based upon the vision of the annual conference.  The author needed to find a way to network leaders, ministries and local churches.  The bishop and extended cabinet determined that the Leadership3 Incubator process was to be implemented as a spiritual and leadership development tool.  The author was invited to participate in an incubator with the bishop and his appointive cabinet.  Part of that process was to create a ministry action plan appropriate for the author's work. She decided to develop a cohesive Connectional Ministries Council by leading an incubator group with the executive team, the connectional ministries conference staff, the conference lay leader, a district superintendent and the bishop's administrative assistant.  This project paper rehearses the connecting lessons from the past, especially from the early days of John Wesley, and offers ways to adapt them for current times.
