Church leaders provided descriptive responses to their observations which surveyed and assessed their understanding and willingness to adopt Servant Leadership into their respective church ministries. Church leaders at Campbell African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. participated in an eight-week Bible study on faith, love, and power, and the healing ministry of Jesus and its implications for the church today. Additionally, participants attended a focus group session to outline the healing ministry of the contemporary church. Study results indicate a renewed passion for ministry. The data triangulation methodology included surveys, interviews, and audio/videotape recordings. The researcher discovered that, while a majority had an awareness of the congregation's culture and language, only 40% surveyed understood how culture and language applied to their roles as church leaders. Consequences of the analysis indicated a healthy vital church as a result of leadership training related to church retreats, small group Bible study, and sermon series. It included an ecclesiological study and a review of current sociological research on the office of the pastor and the role of middle judicatories in the UCC. Younger generations will need to fill the inevitable void in congregational leadership that comes with time. To affect the transfer of leadership from one generation to another, the current leaders need to be prepared to share the leadership with people who see the world differently. The researcher conducted a congregational survey and analyzed responses from two focus group interviews. This project assessed how a leadership retreat and an adult education seminar affected the participants' attitudes and behaviors regarding the transfer of leadership to younger generations. The project exposed pastors and laypeople to the basic concepts of strategy planning skills helping them understand the value of strategy in their churches.  The project consisted of three stages.  The project director researched the area of strategy planning skills in the first stage.  In the second stage, the director developed the lesson plans for the workshop to equip the leaders in basic strategy planning skills. Churches can have and do all the 'right things': congregational unity, biblically faithful worship and teaching, baptisms, large missions receipts, deep savings, community outreach programs, and denominational notoriety--and yet dontinue to experience numerical stagnation and even decline. This project discusses the local church as a living organism exploring the theory that every church is unique such that identifying and actively expressing its congregational DNA can lead to revitalization. In this study the responses to a series of congregational surveys, interviews, and inventories were 'interpreted' and used to identify a church's DNA.
