The proposed model of leadership is intended to have more emphasis upon ministry than administration in a return to the teaching role of the bishop/overseer. Research on theology, relationships, leadership, and church growth provided the theological and theoretical rationale.  Twelve people participated.  Each participant signed a covenant of learning before the project and wrote a covenant of ministry afterwards. Evaluations were collected from participants, the field supervisor, and the project director. The lack of a clearly defined vision statement by Christian leaders is a major contributing factor to plateaued or dying churches.  A clear statement of vision provides a ministry with greater direction, unity, relevance, motivation, financial support, and valid education.  Will a 3-month small group study using Malphurs's steps for building vision produce a clear and unified vision of ministry among the leadership of Warren Community Fellowship, as determined by using a pretest and posttest vehicle of measurement?  Warren Community Fellowhship is a 5-year old, suburban, non-denominational community church with an average attendance of 400. Instruments used for measurement included 11 interview questions given prior to and after the training, 4 cognitive tests, and a seminar evaluation form. The research examines: spiritual leadership processes in the Bible; secular organisational theories on leadership development; church dynamics.  Some leadership development principles are identified and applied in the ministry project.  A Christian educational design for leadership development incorporating the use of small group experience is presented.  The project involved a short-term church leaders development group for lay leaders. He also interviewed many pastors and parishioners of African-American Baptist congregations, including some who were neither Black nor Baptist.  The author produced a workbook which is particularly designed for pastors and parishioners of African-American Baptist congregations.  The workbook was refined after being submitted to certain pastors and professors for a critical evaluation and after discussion by certain Black parishioners in a workshop setting.  The author devised four chapters: Leadership: its concept; Origin of leadership styles; Diversity of leadership styles; and Implementing leadership styles. Reading this dissertation/project, pastors can have a better understanding of their role as a leader and parishioners can have a better understanding of their pastor as a leader and themselves as followers. The author developed a four-part training manual that provides a general orientation to family systems thinking for group leaders, with a specific focus on self-differentiation, homeostasis or balance, and emotional triangles.  All leaders indicated improved ability to work with groups and in other settings as self-differentiated persons, though some wanted to understand the concepts more completely.
