In a six year period of time, the Berean Baptist Church had replaced two ministers due to internal conflict.  In spite of church membership growth there appeared to be a need for leadership training.  Some members agreed to attend leadership development classes. Nowadays, the development of Hispanic American lay leadership formation centers is crucial to the entire church in the United States.  The primary methods employed in this project are historical, sociological, and theological.  This use of multiple methods is intended to impress the reader with the urgency of this problem and the growing need for lay leadership.  Lay participation in ministry requires the encouragement and support of clergy and religious. Literary research was used to develop biblical and theological bases for recognition and development of existing leadership in the church by the pastor.  Social research was the primary consideration of the project, measuring and evaluating leadership response. The project examines the basic issues involved in contextualization and offers a defense for the procedure used. Traditional patterns of leadership among Alaskan natives as found in the ethnographic literature is described. The results in the Morris congregation have been positive in terms of the development, both spiritual and functional, of existing and new leaders.
