The author's spiritual autobiography reveals God's profound impact on his life, inspiring a ministry of reconciliation and growth in Christlikeness. The Model of Spiritual Formation postulates that nurturing mature Christians involves guiding them to embody Christ's essence, engaging with diverse cultures, honing expertise, and multiplying their transformative influence. The Research Project rigorously tested a facet of this Model with a small group from a local community church in Scarborough, ON. The findings validate the effectiveness of lectio divina as an impactful tool for spiritual transformation. \r\nThrough this journey, lectio divina emerged as a formidable and indispensable practice in facilitating the spiritual formation of individuals, propelling them towards Christlikeness. Studies show that many believers consider themselves to be stalled in their spiritual growth and that they often view prayer as a duty rather than a delight. The purpose of this thesis-project is to explore the question of whether or not prayer that is based in an intimate relationship with God, using Scripture as its foundation, can make a significant impact on the spiritual growth of Christians. To this end, thirty-eight individuals participated in a six-week study using lectio divina in their personal prayer time. Of these, 95 percent reported some degree of spiritual growth. The conclusion of this project is that lectio divina appears to have catalyzed growth in four areas: listening to God; deepening personal relationship with God; using Scripture as a basis for prayer; and being more disciplined in prayer."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131850139238400,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:54:02.775Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:20:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"62071deb-1ae9-4d5a-af5f-45708e7d1417","accessControl_ssim":["1fbb200b-0745-46aa-b5e0-d4daeb6dd068"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Bringing it home: a hermeneutic phenomenological study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:20:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:00:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["942113b3-814c-48dd-a413-20eca6c4aa18"],"hasLease_ssim":["310991a4-20c6-4928-9c34-79477c313e2c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lisa Kimball"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Peter John Hobbs"],"publisher_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, VA)"],"subject_tesim":["Lectio divina","Christian education","Youth","Parent and child--Religious aspects--Christianity","Church work with youth","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Central to this thesis is a hermeneutic phenomenological, qualitative inquiry of the essence of the lived experience of teenagers doing Lectio Divina with their parents at home. Thirdly, this thesis-project observes the place of the Bible in the Christian tradition and lectio divina in Guigo II's book, The Ladder of Monks. Fourthly, this thesis-project examines the relationship between lectio divina and non-Christian Korean culture, Korean Protestant spirituality. In this variant of the project, the increase was markedly less (8%) and was not statistically significant (p = .28)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721631971540992,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:24:57.092Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:12:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:24:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7fb25b2e-cd64-44ab-847e-f2e5288a10cf","accessControl_ssim":["29a0ae5c-85c1-437c-8148-1242143d73f7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The appeal of a Wesleyan-Arminian, postmodern hermeneutic applied to the practice of Lectio divina for evangelicals seeking transformational prayer-encounters with God"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:12:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:54:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["113e8949-6039-4b2c-9855-5937ed98893f"],"hasLease_ssim":["ed5cb169-f4fa-40c2-a889-3b329bbd9a96"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Osborn"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John A Hanna"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Wesleyan","Spiritual formation","Lectio divina"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The research focused on introducing the four steps of Lectio Divina to evangelicals from a Wesleyan-Arminian perspective.
