Members view religion as a subset of a community mutual aid society. Members have expressed a feeling of incompetence regarding their ability to read and/or understand the Bible and have communicated disinterest in learning about God although they espouse Christian values.  Therefore the challenge is to find a way of Biblical preaching that will excite this congregation and create a desire to be in relationship with God. This project aimed at encouraging Scripture reading in the Sunday worship service of C\u0026MA churches. It involved fifteen C\u0026MA pastors who used a three-month segment of a four-year Bible reading schedule, developed for this project. Each Sunday they read the assigned reading and material given to them to help them prepare for and introduce the reading. They then filled out a questionnaire, which attempted to evaluate their reactions and ideas concerning the three-month implementation period. They also filled out a short questionnaire three months after they completed the implementation period. This questionnaire sought to identify if they were still reading Scripture regularly in worship and why they were or were not continuing in this biblical practice. The readings are introduced and connected with framing statements. It is believed that in many worship settings there is a 'disconnect' between the lectionary read and the selected sermon text. By the time the preacher begins his sermon the hearer has often forgotten the scripture reading. The use of biblical storytelling can assist the listener in hearing, understanding, remembering and connecting the text of scripture with the sermon.  To evaluate the effective use of biblical storytelling, surveys were conducted on four Sundays among a sample of congregation members. On each Sunday the lectionary reading was 'read' in one service and 'told' in the other. Participants completed a survey following each of the worship services noting the impact the scripture had on their hearing, understanding, remembering and connecting that scripture with the sermon.  The results supported the theory that when the sermon text is presented as a storytelling rather than a reading there is a stronger remembrance and connection with the sermon. After hearing the sermon text 'told,' rather than read, the hearer is more aware of and familiar with the scripture which benefits the reception of the sermon. Contemporary Christian loss of mythic, metaphorical thought patterns in favor of literal, rationalistic ways of thinking threatens the survival of the people of God and divests the Scriptures of their power to transform. The project uses secular story and biblical story in a 'sandwich' technique borrowed from the Gospel of Mark in order to restore an imaginative, metaphorical perspective to Christian consciousness so that biblical narrative can be reclaimed as story. Preparing to preach within the context of numerous other pastoral duties can make it difficult to see past the coming Sunday.  At times, this limited vision may create a feeling that Sunday sermons have little connection from week to week.  This project is designed to bring cohesiveness to the preaching task. By creating a sense of direction and purpose over a year's time, preaching can be seen not as a series of isolated events but integral parts of an overall plan. Examination of the Christian year and lectionary and the impact these interdependent entities have on preaching provide a framework for the preaching planning guide.  Chapters 1 and 2 respectively look at the history, development and current status of the Christian year and lectionaries. In chapter 3, the limits and benefits of allowing the Christian year and lectionary to drive preaching are presented and evaluated.  A six-step planning guide is the basis of chapter 4.  Chapter 5 then serves as a summary and critique of the
