The context of this project is the psychology of Carl Jung and the spirituality of John of the Cross.  Their perspectives are utilized in formulating and implementing a psychospiritual model of adult development.  The model challenges our story and guides us on the human journey. The model can be adapted to various areas of ministry. This project highlights the model's usefulness for pastoral counseling.  The qualitative study provided some initial insights that are tentative and inconclusive. The purpose of this project is to give the clergyperson, in this case the rabbi, an appreciation for the religious rite of passage as well as an understanding of its psychoanalytical origins and interpersonal implications.  The project outlines the traditional Jewish approaches as well as the human and practical realities of three particular rites of passage. It uses this model for the pastoral assessment of congregational families with regard to life cycle issues.  The author hypothesizes that the model may be useful in identifying families who risk having difficulty with life cycle transitions and situational crises.  He shows how the family wellness program 'Understanding Us,' which is based on the circumplex model, can be a vehicle for such assessment.
