In American history, each cultural group that immigrated to America relinquished some of its cultural differentia in order to become assimilated into the emerging society. In recent generations, there have not been new waves of immigration into America. The larger cultural group has not been able to continue to identify itself in contrast to the incoming groups. As such, it is not just one subgroup of American society facing identity crisis; it is all of American society. The problem is compounded in that religion in America has become a conservative affair. Religion becomes in authentic when it is not popular and has lost its role as the great equalizer. One of the things religion does for a society is to preserve the rituals of initiation, preservation, and stability for individuals and culture. Any social or psychological crisis may be turned to positive creative use through ritual. These rituals allow for the translation of identity crises into terms of death and rebirth. These rituals empower the enduring of the agony of the crises. And, the endurance itself becomes the basis of the social and moral structure of society."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1611"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135648529252352,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:54:25.202Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:22:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:56:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8463c98f-5b94-471b-9f03-eb16f1dcc013","accessControl_ssim":["ef741925-8b56-496f-afb7-68bc45c6ce4d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A contribution of Korean traditional theater to liturgical expression"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:22:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:02:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a831648f-b5c2-4bc7-b5c9-cce36b5577c3"],"hasLease_ssim":["69830ba3-0552-4b8d-8f79-b78354e0c4da"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Jack Coogan"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Seung Nam Kim"],"keyword_tesim":["Indigenization of worship"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Religion and drama","Korean drama","Liturgics","Culture"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Korean churches have adopted traditional Western theologies without considering the religio-cultural heritage of Korea. Therefore, Korean churches have become strongly biased against traditional religions and various theatrical traditions. Korean Christianity, although very Western in its liturgy and appearances, is obviously quite shamanistic in its belief and behavior. In the Korean traditional theater, shinmyong is a special artistic experience characterizing the popular aesthetic consciousness of the Korean people. Shinmyong gives rise to the birth of the people's enthusiastic and participating worship, whether on an individual or a group level. The shinmyong is comparable to the Western Christian liturgical experience. Shinmyong is an embodiment and incarnation of the Spirit innate in each and every person. The church of Korea should acknowledge these theatrical phenomena as unique resources for the Christian liturgical theology. For the future, this artistic liturgical experience of shinmyong will contribute directly to the development of Korean church worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132000333070336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:26.011Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:17:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:34:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3b62faea-564b-4c2c-9514-04b07701de4f","accessControl_ssim":["139440ce-630c-451e-a3d6-f335fbfbc57d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["God's house...what do we need? a translation of liturgy into architecture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:17:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:51:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2e6e8aa7-21bf-4336-9ef6-9fdbc7e21fba"],"hasLease_ssim":["3ad40224-d3e5-477f-b60d-a1b7c7631c69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard Allen Bodey"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry A Jost"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod","Liturgics","Architecture","Church architecture","Lutheran church buildings"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Current architectural church designs, rectangular in form like the Old Testament tabernacle, a place of sacrifice, is used for the New Testament sacramental worship. The project concludes that the insights of liturgical theology can provide a basis for a thorough evaluation of a congregation's eucharistic life, and can help develop a comprehensive program for eucharistic renewal. The first section of the project develops a foundational basis in liturgical theology by reviewing and analyzing the approaches of five representative scholars. The second section uses these insights to interpret the practice of Eucharist in a particular liturgical context. Based on the evaluation of this context, the third section proposes a model for eucharistic renewal.
