She researched the understanding of adoption from a biblical, theological and family spirituality perspective. She conducted interviews with families, and provided liturgical resources as well as a small group study for a church setting so that the church can provide more complete support of adoptive families. She concluded that the understanding of adoption has changed throughout the generations, and the theological view of adoption is the core of self-understanding in the Christian community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715329615593472,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:44:46.697Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:42:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7523aaa9-e6da-4685-a24c-3528ed83401c","accessControl_ssim":["4eb8253e-7e57-4d26-acab-411bd9ac6307"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Heart, mind, soul and strength: engaging the listeners' whole being through the incorporation of creative arts into preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:42:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:34:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fcaedc01-3324-46e6-b288-e4a7d425f7a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["1ad77f46-c910-4723-9ce4-ac217afa5dbd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul S Allen"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard L Gehring"],"keyword_tesim":["Sermons--Illustrations"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Art","Sermons","Multiple intelligences","Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity","Preaching","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis explores the use of music, drama and visual arts in preaching. It emerges out of the author's desire to preach sermons that stimulate emotions and intuitions as well as the listeners' intellectual capacity. Drawing upon Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, the author presented sermons incorporating diverse artistic media as a means of engaging various intelligences. Feedback to these sermons was solicited through both written and verbal responses. The thesis posits that the use of such creative elements can be effective in addressing the whole beings of the listeners and engaging different modes of intelligence."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128339823460352,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:15.076Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:18:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30e37e2f-f4ab-4889-b6c5-4669a760fd26","accessControl_ssim":["fe3732ff-1711-4834-bf60-d486a54ee25f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching the missional nature of the Eucharist for Lutheran Christians and congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7fba0688-b9e7-4627-b3c5-b445b974862b"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a1ef781-bf88-4a0a-b8db-b6d5df0ac135"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy V Olson"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David Michael Doane"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Apologetics","Lord's Supper--Lutheran churches","Mission of the church","Theology","Missions--Theory","Liturgics","Lutheran preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis proposes that the mission of the church to 'proclaim and share Christ' is grounded in the church's participation in the Eucharist and the 'sending' that follows. This missionary incentive is supported by the preaching ministry of the church. Three types of sermons are suggested as best suited to support this missionary incentive, including mystagogical preaching, apologetic preaching and missional preaching. The intended purpose is that listeners of such sermons will develop a stronger connection between their participation in the Table and what it means to be sent for mission and ministry in the world.
