Pastoral interviews and congregational focus groups supplied data about how this service functions within a particular local church setting in which multiple worship services are offered to congregations. Liturgy involves a multidimensional language that is both verbal and non-verbal. The qualitative research explored the question: What lived experience makes worship meaningful for persons within the United Church of Canada? Conversations with three women and three men were taped, transcribed and developed into narrative stories. Subsequently the author identified themes within and challenges for worship through analysis and hermeneutic exploration. Relevant worship themes included: hospitality, space, embodiment, and a felt sense of authenticity and awe. Challenges for worship include: the development of hospitable ways for welcoming persons; the involvement of each of the senses through signs and symbols, stories, songs and structure; the importance of worshippers having a felt sense of authenticity with worship leaders; and a need for the church to affirm persons' experiences of awe in nature and daily life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130335153487873,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:57.972Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:32:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"551c64e5-745b-4272-87c1-0f2f9b4394c6","accessControl_ssim":["7d1ca21b-0766-4c59-b470-ccdaaa0464e6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The centrality of the Word of God in Presbyterian worship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:32:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:37:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ad85673-2336-4417-b903-b3f2eed37b99"],"hasLease_ssim":["01681e1b-fcd9-4353-a643-3b68653c5e5d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert M Shelton"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Paul McGarey"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Covenants--Religious aspects--Christianity","Presbyterian Church","Word of God","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project attempts to make a connection between how the Word of God is understood, and how worship is ordered. The result of the project and its implementation in a parish setting was the elimination of the request for a 'contemporary' worship from those exposed to the project tools."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, MO)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c233458a-014a-46a2-aa34-c5309c85f7e6"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126831398649856,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:34:16.531Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:36:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:58:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b392ba9c-4a4b-421d-988b-ab8c4a0b37fd","accessControl_ssim":["1550f1f4-4baa-490e-80ed-57581465107f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Salvation and liturgy: an Advent and Christmas Eve project"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:36:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:19:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ac8cffc-b1e1-4779-826a-c00384333c25"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e466f9a-e594-477b-99b7-309e6fddd0b1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The setting is western Chesterfield County, Virginia, whose population will grow from 14,700 to 32,700 in the next ten years. The author is the founding pastor of a United Methodist Church chartered in 1987 in Chesterfield. Two challenges provided the impetus for the project. One, finding a common religious practice among a diverse people, and two, expanding participation in the liturgy. Advent and Christmas Eve worship services were selected to meet both challenges. The church involved hundreds of volunteers who created a setting that allowed two thousand people to practice worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719973253283840,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:58:35.215Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:05:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"71cf10d1-97e5-4353-b571-febd7e83f311","accessControl_ssim":["53619bf8-4901-439f-a563-052910743025"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Vox Sancti Spiriti"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:05:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:27:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dd48420e-c1e4-4806-b98a-8ea2d073770b"],"hasLease_ssim":["61f89309-3633-4931-9348-f2dc51bf6a3d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Russell Morton Th.D."],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Pergola, Victor J."],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Spiritual life","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to impact the spiritual life of a select group of Christian professionals in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
