As such, many meaningful rites of passage are not readily available to help individuals, families, and congregations negotiate developmental passages and life transitions, which are pregnant with potential for growth.  We humans depend on religious rituals to help us cope with the existential mysteries.  These sacred rituals help sustain us and give us tools to navigate difficult passages, while also planting seeds of hope and change. Yet the Korean Church has generally remained uninvolved in the social and political changes taking place in Korea, and this has increasingly alienated Korean people from the church.
