Yet the Korean Church has generally remained uninvolved in the social and political changes taking place in Korea, and this has increasingly alienated Korean people from the church. Christianity and its Eucharist are Euro-American cultural exports not identified with Japanese or Asian culture and images. This project examines the need for Christianity to identify and become indigenous with Japanese and Asian culture.  The project demonstrates how the Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony), which best represents Japanese culture and spirituality and which has been used in Japanese Christian history, can become the Japanese Eucharist.
