He also did a synod-wide survey of all LCMS pastors to determine current practices and attitudes concerning the frequency of offering the Lord's Supper. The results showed that the Lord's Supper was at the center of weekly worship in scripture and in the first three centuries in the early church. The results also showed a recovery of this understanding in the Lutheran Reformation. In a 13-session worship curriculum for four adult classes and a four-part sermon series focused on the action of Christ in the eucharist, the congregation moves gradually to weekly observance of the eucharist in two Sunday services, after 160 years of monthly observance. To discover the individual perceptions of the congregation regarding the theology and practice of the Lord's Supper, a comprehensive survey was prepared and administered.  Results indicated that factors contributing to low attendance include: a lack of understanding of its theological significance; feelings of unworthiness; unresolved differences with fellow believers; and footwashing.  Four sermons informed by the studies in Scripture, the writings of Ellen G White, and non-Adventist literature, were then preached.  Results of a second survey indicated that changes in attitude are a slow process.
