A definition of discipleship was developed based on Jesus' model, history and current cultural realities. Eucharistic themes and practice were explored theologically and historically with an emphasis on a Wesleyan world view. The model presented in this study is that discipleship is to be the channel through which the themes of the eucharist are introduced into a believer's life. This project focuses on a particular congregation and on the importance of the sacrament of Eucharist in a postmodern context. The report follows the story of a new church development, which serves as the case study for a postmodern community where Eucharist is a mark of the church. It explores characteristics of postmodernity and how the sacrament connects with the contemporary cultural and societal milieu. In May 1882 the Church of England inquired about the possibility of the Salvation Army coming under the authority of the Church of England.  One of the irresolvable issues that prevented this union was the sacrament of the Lord's Supper.  By randomly surveying Canadian Salvationists the author discovered that they are neither aware of the historical circumstances surrounding Booth's decision, nor could they articulate its biblical non-sacramental position. Richardson made his main contribution to the Stone-Campbell movement as co-editor of Alexander Campbell's second periodical, 'The Millennial Harbinger'. This study has sought to reclaim the lost heritage of Richardson's thought on the Holy Spirit, to find an understanding of his thought and the influences of his time, to show how his thought differed from the thought of other leaders in the Stone-Campbell Movement previous to 1906, and to attempt to update his thought with that of some recent studies on the Holy Spirit.  The second part of this study consists of an editing of Richardson's twenty-four communion devotionals, Communings in the Sanctuary. The group explored the baptism and eucharist sections of the Faith and Order document Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry, and provided feedback to the World Council of Churches.  The denominations represented were: Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Progressive Baptist, Southern Baptist, and United Methodist.  The project brings together some basic aspects of sacramental theology, the historical journeys of the various liturgical traditions represented in the group, and the convergence in sacramental thought that characterizes the present ecumenical community.
