A policy capturing study was conducted engaging thirteen congregations of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Six congregations had planted independent congregations.  Six congregations had planted multi-site venues. One congregation had used both models of church planting. The primary component for information gathering was a survey seeking information on how each church decided which model to follow. Twenty-seven participants answered forty-five discovery questions concerning their missional experiences. Their responses revealed that they had been transformed by the Holy Spirit and graciously answered the call to missional servanthood. Using a pro-active research method, members were surveyed and interviewed, resulting in a grief program which includes education, grief groups and systematic follow-up. It was discovered during the project that evangelism was a surprising benefit of the grief process.
