These liturgies, for use in Sunday worship, are not a funeral or wedding as such, but attend to the emotional and spiritual issues inherent in those transitions.  A brief liturgy of support for grieving families was also developed. Interviews with forty-four Homestead Presbyterian pastors and spouses revealed that their marriage relationships were generally healthy, and that where problems arise the causes are seldom from the clergy job or other external forces, but stem principally from internal attitudes and expectations of self and others.  From the studies a manual was written to provide guidance to committees on ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in nurturing and supporting pastors and spouses. Compatibility is established in the first session of a five-session program by using William Schutz's FIRO-B inventory, family systems data, and the couple's courtship data.  During the fifth session, the couple retake the FIRO-B and again respond to a taped marital conflict.  The retest results show evidence of growth. Results from the program demonstrate that four of the five couples tested show an increase in negotiation learning and compatibility. Workshop materials were predicated on theological, psychological and communication principles.  Couples, attending workshops in four churches, prepared communication goals on a graded scale to achieve in three months. Sixteen of twenty-one couples returned the scales to me.  I processed and interpreted the results. The program was evaluated by means of a pre- and post-test family life survey.  The survey was designed to measure knowledge, attitudes, and skills for family living. Percentages of correct answers on the pre- and post-tests were determined and compared.
