This work explores how systems theory can be employed by the pastor to help the couple understand the covenants in which they were nurtured and still participate.  The pastoral or hermeneutic circle was used as the author's methodology. This begins in pastor's experience of preparing couples for marriage.  The next element in this process was social analysis in which the author explored those elements of family systems theory and technique which were useful to the marriage preparation.  Then, the author engaged in theological reflection using the biblical concept of covenant as how notion of covenant can be beneficial for defining and interpreting contemporary Christian marriage. Lastly, a model of marriage preparation using family systems theory as well as the idea of covenant from a systems perspective is illustrated. Lately pastors have complained that they are spending a considerable amount of time in post-marital counseling.  This project sought to design and implement a premarital education program to help prepare couples for marriage and reduce the number of hours pastors spend with post-marital care.  The seminars in the model will prepare couples for life's challenges as they learn to develop communication and coping skills. With the aid of biblical resources, a biblical base is set forth in the context of premarital education. Three objectives, working with longer-term clients for in-depth reconstruction, shorter-term clients for the speed of their completion, and clients having affairs for recommitment to their marriages, were met.  Clinical data was evaluated to interpret the clients' maturation.
