The shift has enhanced the ends of marriage to acknowledge and include the importance of partnership and community. This project explains a contemporary understanding of the sacrament of marriage. Additionally, it presents the John Gottman research-based marital therapy process. It demonstrates the strong correlations between a Roman Catholic theology of marriage and Gottman's Sound Marital House theory. This study identified a course of action for offering marriage enrichment to ministry couples.  A couples group was added to a Clinical Pastoral Education unit, an established course of study required by seminaries.  The method was a case study completed with six couples with pre and post testing.  While testing showed slight changes in the marriages, self report included many comments towards marital growth and management of ministry issues. This thesis is composed of three parts.  The first part, consisting of three chapters is the Biblical foundation, the second part: Chapter Four, includes 12 instruction samples.  The third part is the fifth chapter, which is the result of an evaluation.  This chapter analyses the result of the application of premarital education. Results indicate that newlyweds understand home, including a church or spiritual home, to be a place where they can be comfortable, be themselves, find satisfying relationships, have memories and be renewed or find energy.  Using descriptive qualitative research methodology, ten interviews were conducted with recently married young couples and a focus group of three couples who were active in church and married three to nine years.
