After enlisting and training the team, the project leader led the marriage enrichment ministry team in developing a first-year marriage enrichment ministry plan for a local church. The equipping program was implemented during a seven-week period under the direction of the pastor, who is also the project director.  The equipping sessions introduced and defined marriage counseling and focused on specific areas of conflict within the marriage setting. Couples using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator [registered symbol] produced a joint spiritual discipline during marital counseling sessions with the pastor.  By practicing this discipline together, would they draw closer to God and to each other?  Focus groups, journals, and surveys showed the couples benefited from their joint spiritual discipline. There were twelve couples in attendance, four already married between 6 months and thirty years and eight unmarried couples. The couples already married enjoyed sharing and caught some of the enthusiasm from the couples preparing for marriage, while the unmarried couples enjoyed the mix as well. The author believes that the marriage rite best expresses the theology of marriage in the Orthodox Church, and makes a very good 'text book' for marriage preparation. During the retreat, we began with an introduction offering an Orthodox vision of marriage, followed by a line by line study of the rite. Communication skills were also taught, using the theology expressed in the rite.
