The Church can facilitate positive changes of perspectives on end of life issues with its aging parishioners through a narrative theology paradigm by reforming and re-authoring the events of their lives. the primary hypothesis was that through the guided life review, elderly parishioners experienced increased self-actualization. The hypothesis was proven to be measurable and correct. This was a functional change model based in Maslow's work on self-actualization, archetypal process of Jung and Hillman, and the eighth stage of human development of Erikson. Social legitimation of identity, culture shock, loneliness, and Maslow's hierarchy of need are examined.  Images of the church and the message of I Peter are analyzed to draw implications for ministry within the Japanese situation. The resultant suggestions for ministry are evaluated by pastors. It gathers material from interviews conducted in Spanish communities along the eastern seaboard, especially in the Spanish church setting of Manchester, New Hampshire.  Maslowian theory concerning human motivation, conflict between birth-culture ties and a competitive society and the scarcity of bi-lingual, cross-cultural programs shaped the author's philosophy of pastoral care. The biblical support for the project is established through examining the Old Testament inclusions of 'sojourners' and New Testament concepts of discipleship, spiritual gifts, and loving others.  Psychological factors of assimilation are established through Abraham Mallows' hierarchy of needs.  Church models and secular models are examined also. Chapter four sets forth the actual components of the project: membership class, membership interview, fellowship ministry, and a sermon series on 'Keeping People.'  Chapter five reveals that the membership class and membership interview were the most effective components of the project.
