Minnesota. A qualitative methodology using observation, narratives, face-to-face interviews, and a survey was employed. The findings suggest systemic and organizational issues concerning policies and procedures which include a neglect and lack of positive rewards, reduced staffing and high turnover rates, differing approaches to care planning, constant policy changes, lost leadership, and staff refusal to float. The initial data were generated by a questionnaire specifically designed and directed to the fourteen congregational owners.  A provincial status was then developed and circulated, accompanied by a survey validation document. Teaching methods included patient visitation, group supervision, didactic seminars, and ministry reporting. Experimental and descriptive research methodologies were used with a control and an experimental group.  Student growth was evaluated in four areas.  Statistically significant growth (p= .o5) was measured in the area of self-concept.  No statistically significant change was demonstrated in the students' attitude toward hospital ministry. The data obtained, which includes response from physicians to a write-up summarizing and assessing patients' history and a questionnaire patients returned following their discharge, indicated that sharing their history was a positive experience for ten of the twelve patients interviewed. This development creates for families the difficult choice whether or not they should donate the viable organs of a family member who has died. The emotional aspects that follow death may complicate the decision-making process; yet, the situation demands a timely decision.  The purpose of this project is: 1) to examine the ethical and theological issues involved in the decision, and 2) to develop a guide that provides the essential facts and considerations which any patient or family member should reflect on in the decision-making process.  The study is limited to an investigation of organs suitable for transplantation and to considerations that face the potential donor or consenting family member. It proposes a Christian theological viewpoint that supports the donation of organs that are still viable for transplant. In this situation the following problems ensue: the hospital as an institution is not significantly involved in the role and function of its chaplaincy, and the staff chaplains are confused as to their purpose, philosophy, and procedures.  In addition, other hospital employees, the departments in which they serve, and the physicians who practice are confused or not aware of the service of the chaplaincy.  This inadequacy resulted in less effective patient care.  The place of the chaplains as team members in the hospital, along with being companions with employees and doctors, was the desired end of the project.
