Relationships are essential to the proper maturation and growth of an individual. Unfortunately, at-risk youth fail to experience positive, nurturing connections with significant adults in their lives.  Mentors have a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to a young person these lacking qualities through an intimate relationship of mutual trust.  This project focuses on leading a group of adults through the beginning stages of forming a mentoring relationship with a young person susceptible to self-deprecating behavior without intervention. The purpose of the project was to research available resources, to design and adapt methodology, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the project director's leadership.  Drawing from numerous print resources, existing mentoring programs, and interviews with church and business leaders, the project director developed a process of planning, implementing, and evaluating a workable mentor-training instrument that can be replicated in other ministry venues.
