The project was intentionally designed for the growth of both the mentor and the student.  The project utilized learner-centered mentoring to accomplish the project's purpose.  In this mentoring paradigm the responsibility for the learning experience is shared as a means to deepen the spiritual lives of college students and utilize the influence of each mentor. The project was structured around training sessions, weekly meetings, and follow-up sessions. The concept of spiritual growth guides blended some of the aspects of discipleship, mentoring, and Christian coaching.  The director trained the select team in four sessions over a four-week period. Relationships are essential to the proper maturation and growth of an individual. Unfortunately, at-risk youth fail to experience positive, nurturing connections with significant adults in their lives.  Mentors have a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to a young person these lacking qualities through an intimate relationship of mutual trust.  This project focuses on leading a group of adults through the beginning stages of forming a mentoring relationship with a young person susceptible to self-deprecating behavior without intervention. Chapter 1 traces the history of Hunter Street Baptist Church, goals, rationale, and limitations of the project.  Chapter 2 contains an overview of the biblical and theological aspects of 'church,' and uses the biblical image to springboard into a rationale for the purposes of the church, and the fulfillment of the Great Commission and Great Commandment of Jesus Christ.  Chapter 3 looks at the mentor/mentoree relationship with the objective of healthy church growth training as an extension of the ministries of Hunter Street Baptist Church.  An analysis of the biblical guidelines for the mentor relationship is included in this chapter. Chapters 4 and 5 examine specific ministry focus and goals in the actual mentor/mentoree relationship offered to partner churches from Hunter Street Baptist Church.  Included are strategies to implement the development of healthy churches and growing congregations.
