The mentor relationship provides a forum for affirmation, supervision, modeling, instruction, guidance, correction, and encouragement. The project conducted three seminars for church leaders concerning child abuse and its effects, self-esteem among black males, and substance abuse. These mentors were paired with seven first offenders referred by the juvenile court. The project includes a literature search on the subject of 'mentoring', a survey of pastoral internship opportunities offered by a representative group of evangelical seminaries and graduate schools of theology, a comparative analysis of three local church internship programs similar to the effort at Blue Church, and detailed appraisals of the six internships already served at Blue Church, carried out by means of personal interviews with each former intern.  A proposal for an enhanced internship program, incorporating the modifications indicated, closes the
