This project is an attempt to analyze and evaluate the experience and climate that facilitated some 24 persons to hear and respond to the call of God, many of whom are now pastoring churches throughout the Greater New York and Northern New Jersey annual conferences. The specific facet of mentoring considered is discipleship in leadership development and deployment. A 13-week mentoring program on leadership development and deployment was developed which focused on character, content, and competency. Lay-leaders where mentored through the project both individually and in small groups. Those team-members being led assessed the lay-leaders before and after the mentoring program. The lay-leaders' significantly improved in the areas of 'follower-ship' skills, knowledge and understanding in the discipline of leadership, and leadership skills. Despite remarkable numerical growth of the Brazillian evangelical church over the past twenty years, it continues to weather a sever integrity crisis. Directive Mentoring fuses the relational strength of mentoring with the learning strength of discipleship to form Christian character through encouragement, accountability and biblical praxis. Six strategic lay-leaders participated in the documented, three month pilot project. This project developed a seminar to encourage older women in practical godliness that they could teach in their churhces. The nine participants in Chimbote, Peru, were evaluated three months later to determine content remembered, behavioral impact, and experiences as they taught in their churches.
