The project director trained and led a strategy development team composed of four Texas Baptist Student Ministry directors and two university students to develop the peer mentoring strategy.  The strategy development team and project director met together in six ninety-minute sessions. The first three sessions were devoted to demonstrating the need for a peer mentoring project with Texas Baptist Student Ministers and preparing the team to develop such a strategy.  The final three sessions focused on developing goals and objectives for each category of the strategy.  Following the sixth session, team members worked independently to complete the remaining parts of the strategy. The project director compiled and edited the final written strategy. Specifically, this mentoring was geared to four components of spiritual well-being: spiritual development/formation, physical fitness, intellectual fitness, and emotional/relational fitness. This research was a pilot test of a model that may be used in future leadership development. The author uses a qualitative research design to gather and evaluate data.  Subjects are studied within the context of performing a postmodern method of evangelism. Findings from this study indicate that after a fifteen week period of instruction, subjects are able to utilize a specified sequence of interrogatives with a moderate level of competency. The subjects were the pastors of churches that were visited and where conferences were attended as part of the 2001-2002 Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary. The findings of this research suggest that mentoring makes an important contribution to the development of pastors. Rev. Neville Gosman met weekly with each of the five men for one year to help these five potential leaders grow into maturity and to meet the critical need at City Heights Church to expand its leadership base. Two separate standardized single-group interrupted time-series surveys were given to all five first time leaders, a control group, and thirty active participants of City Heights Church. Ch. 2 investigates the biblical foundations for mentoring, dealing with two Old Testament passages and several New Testament passages examining Paul as a mentor and Jesus as the ideal mentor. Ch. 3 explores historical as well as contemporary models of mentoring. Particular attention is given to the various components of mentoring, levels of mentoring relationships, as well as how mentoring is utilized today inside both religious and secular spheres. Ch. 4 describes each step in the process of implementing the mentoring ministry within a local church. First were the many social issues that arose during group discussions, especially from students newly transplanted to the Boston, New England, area from other countries and how these issues impacted their personal spirituality. Second was the difficulty of some of these ministerial students in relating American methodology reflected in the reading material, with the overall cultural attitudes of their congregants who had been raised in other nations. The research material, as well as the information provided from the methodology utilized through systems thinking seeks to inform those of us desiring to develop a more diverse understanding in pastoral care in an increasingly multicultural society. The various literature and causal loop diagrams assisted in examining the spiritual, social, and emotional data needed to strengthen Mentored Ministry students in their pastoral roles in church and within their community. The resulting information revealed a clear need for those attending the class sessions and Peer Theological Groups to recognize a broader scope required in pastoral care as ministers within their various church and para-church positions.
