It is based on the thesis that married Army recruits contend with both personal and marital stress as they enter military service. The Army chaplain may minister to such needs through programs such as this. The project methodology evaluates the problems of the recruit, especially the impact of the military on his marital relationship. The paper describes the one day workshop and the welcoming dinner. The instrument used in this research was the Family Environment Scale (FES) which measures family environment in three major dimensions: Relationship, Personal Growth, and System Maintenance. Dimensions are divided into the following ten subscales: Cohesion; Expressiveness; Conflict; Independence; Achievement Orientation; Intellectual-Cultural Orientation; Active Recreational Orientation; Moral-Religious Emphasis; Organization; and Control. Through analysis of variance, it was determined that there were significant differences between officer and enlisted families in two areas, which were Intellectual-Cultural Orientation and Control, and that there were differences approaching statistical significance in the areas of Conflict and Active Recreational Orientation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125908342439936,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:19:36.236Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:15:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:36:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7db1b384-e8d5-45c9-b9fd-76b1cfced3c7","accessControl_ssim":["da00bba4-4bc3-4b13-a2ab-f4f2f27029d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Deciding for responsible behavior: a curriculum designed for teaching moral education at the United States Recruit Training Command"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:15:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1a80c61a-afb5-4437-b32d-03be6a73f65e"],"hasLease_ssim":["022cc491-4579-4f9e-9426-9a67cde010e5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["L Howard Grimes"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William L Patrick"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Values","Human behavior","Rest, James R","Military chaplains","Moral education","Decision making--Moral and ethical aspects","Kohlberg, Lawrence, 1927-1987"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to design a curriculum for teaching moral education in the United States Recruit Training Command. During their eight weeks of training, eighty recruits were exposed to four sessions with the chaplain in which a modified approach to Lawrence Kohlberg's theory of cognitive moral education was used as the educational structure and method. The recruits were pre-tested and post-tested with the Defining Issues Test developed by James R. Rest. Stage levels of moral development were determined in the pre-test and used by the chaplain in lesson preparation. The stage levels were compared with the post-test in an attempt to determine moral development during recruit training.
